Ever since mobile phone shops opened in the neighbourhood, there has been an increase in demand for tablets and smartphones, says Rajkumar, a staff at Poorvika Mobiles at R. K. Mutt, Mylapore (opposite Mylapore Tank).
He says, “Before the lockdown, we would sell only 5 tablets per month. We opened our stores ten days ago and we have been selling two tablets a day since then. With parents working at home and students attending online classes, many parents have been dropping in to get the latest models for their wards.”
He continues, “We have tablets ranging from Rs. 8000 to Rs. 40000. Smartphones with all the features and apps needed by school going children are available too, starting price for these smartphones is Rs. 8000”.
