Panjavarnam silk sari store in Luz has collaborated with classical dancers from across the world to put out snappy dance videos on its Facebook page.
The videos feature dancers performing Bharatnatyam.
Says Vijayalakshmi Ganesh, owner of the store, “We have been associated with well-known dancers and musicians as costume partners for several years now.
“Last year, we were the gift sponsors for Nirikshana, the Natya Kala Conference 2019. And our saris were presented as gifts to dancers who won in an event called Nirikshana Narratives. So this year, to spread some cheer during the lockdown, we thought it would be nice to have the winners perform on a theme based on the lockdown.”
In one of the videos, India based dancer Siri Chandrashekar explores the emotions of people during the lockdown using navarasa concept.
“The dancers were asked to perform a short piece, record it at their living rooms or terraces and send it across to us. The videos were then posted on our Facebook and Instagram pages. We partnered with Aalaap, a Chennai-based arts consulting and management outfit to post the videos.”
The store plans to continue posting such videos through the lockdown.
The videos can be viewed at Panjavarnam’s Facebook page or Instagram page ‘Panjavarnam’. The store is at 13/2, Karpagambal Nagar, Mylapore.
