To contain the virus spread at congested colonies, Chennai Corporation’s special nodal officer J. Radhakrishnan along with senior Chennai Corporation officials launched a slum outreach program at Nochikuppam on Saturday.
As of today, Nochikuppam, a TNSCB (Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board) tenement off Loop Road in Marina has reported over 32 virus-positive cases.
To carry out the program, the officials have collaborated with over 50 NGOs to create COVID-19 awareness and reach out to the slums, where a number of virus-positive cases have been reported.
Said a police officer who was at the launch, “We distributed masks and the Corporation’s special nodal officer Radhakrishnan spoke to the residents of Nochikuppam to create awareness on COVID-19.”
From now on, the NGOs will be distributing masks, hand sanitizers, herbal concoctions, and dry rations
to slum dwellers at regular intervals, he said.
