A Chennai Corporation official attached to Zone 9 (Teynampet zone) confirmed that Appu Street in Mylapore is no longer a containment zone.
On April 22, the civic body demarcated this street as a containment zone after a Tamizh TV channel staff residing at Shanthi Flats here tested virus positive.
However, later the residents of Shanti Flats confirmed that the TV channel staffer tested positive under a defective Rapid Test Kit (RTK).
They also said that in a subsequent test using RTK he tested negative for the virus.
In addition, 10 of his contacts who were taken for testing also tested negative for the virus.
However, the street continued to be a virus containment zone as a safety measure.
Now, as no new virus cases have been reported from this area since the past 28 days, the Corporation official says it is no longer a containment zone.
