Sprouts Montessori School was started by Smita Visweshwar in 2004 with one classroom for three to six year old children. Expanding slowly, they are now ready to admit students into classes IX and X from this year.
Smita says, “Last year we had one student who joined us in class IX, she will be continuing with us this year too. We will be following the Cambridge syllabus and have a tie up with APL Global School in Chennai. Students will give their exams as private candidates. Our faculty are ready with the course materials. Anybody who wants details on admissions can either call us or send us an email and we will send them an application form online”.
When asked about how they have been managing through the lockdown she says, “This year, our last working day was March 31 and we would have closed for two months anyway. We however did keep in touch with the parents and children and gave them a lot of tips on how to spend their summer constructively. Through our live programme on Instagram, thrice a week the teachers would engage the students with story telling, dance and other activities”.
She continues, “We planned to reopen on June 8 prior to the lockdown. Our campus will be closed but online classes will start on the same day. All the teachers are in the process of drawing up schedules for the students. The middle schoolers will have regular classes from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. In the evening, we plan to conduct theatre, arts and P.T. classes for them. Toddlers and primary children however will be given work based on material available at home. For example, if we need to teach them sorting, they can do so with chickpeas and red kidney beans at home. They can roll chapatis, make lime juice and do such similar activities”.
