Guru Jigyasa Giri has been teaching kathak for more than 15 years now. Her dance school, Devaniya Dance School, which was started ten years ago, operates out of two locations, at Ambujammal Street and Venus Colony at Alwarpet.
She says, “Since the lockdown, many students and parents did not want a break. So we decided to try classes online. We have about 140 students who have been split into batches based on their dance experience. We have classes on Zoom once a week, for a maximum of 10 students per batch. In addition to that, the students have whatsapp classes where they will be asked to practice certain moves. That is their home schedule which they can do at their own pace. Any doubts in the home schedule can be clarified at the Zoom session. I have two teachers who assist me.”
She continues, “The response for the online classes has been very good so far. Several of my old students from abroad have also joined the group and have started practicing. After the lockdown we hope to continue online classes for students who have moved away from here”.
