On April 12, Dignity Foundation, an NGO for seniors based in Anna Nagar distributed masks, hand sanitizers and provisions to seniors at its day care centre in Mulimanagar, Foreshore Estate.
A few months ago, the NGO started this centre for seniors citizens residing in this neighbourhood. Since then, the centre has been engaging the seniors through newspaper reading sessions, yoga and skill training.
Besides, they have also been providing food and medical facilities to them.
However, following lockdown, the centre had to stop functioning. Hence, its members are now reaching out to some 40 seniors enrolled with them.
Says Felista Jose, head of Chennai Chapter of Dignity Foundation, “For each senior’s family, we distributed multiple masks, hand sanitizers, and provisions including rice, dhal, oil, rava and sugar. Nelson, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mylapore also created awareness on the need to use a mask and hand sanitizer.”
The NGO has also appointed one of its members to make frequent visits to the senior’s houses. “This is to check if they are alright and provide them a moral support,” she says.
