Lockdown cannot restrain hawkers who must earn their daily bread.
Sunday morning saw a few fish hawkers pushing carts or carrying head-loads and calling out to people in the inner streets of Mylapore.
A resident of Mundagaanni Amman Koil Street said she noticed a pushcart fish hawker and decided to make some purchases. Prawns and ‘para’ fish. Cost Rs.300 per kilo.
“The fish looked fresh and the hawker said he was from north Chennai,” this shopper said.
Being Sunday, these hawkers must be taking a chance to travel far and hope for sales in neighbourhoods where the markets are closed now.
