To decongest the city’s Koyembedu market, Chennai Corporation has planned to introduce mobile markets in the neighbourhood.
The corporation will collaborate with local vegetable vendors and newspaper scrap dealers to sell essential veggies on pushcarts.
As the scrap dealers lost their business following lockdown, the Corporation is encouraging them to use their tricycles to sell veggies.
Says a Corporation official of zone 9 (Teynampet), “We are looking for vendors who may want to put up mobile markets. They will be given masks and ID cards to sell the veggies on the streets.”
Vegetable vendors or scrap dealers who want to put up mobile markets in Mylapore may contact the Corporation at 9445190209.
