Chennai Corporation has started setting up testing kiosks at various parts of the neighbourhood.
Samples of residents showing virus symptoms in the San Thome containment zone will be collected at these kiosks.
Says Corporation’s Sanitary Inspector Ravishankar, “At present, two testing kiosks are set up for testing persons who show virus symptoms in this containment zone. One is at Triplicane and the other is at Nungambakkam. We are planning to set up more testing kiosks in the coming days.
He says that the kiosks are set up to ease the sample collection process.
“Earlier, people with virus symptoms had to be taken to Government hospitals including Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital, and Kilpauk Government Medical College Hospital for sample collection. But now, they can give their samples at the nearby testing kiosks itself.”
“So far, we have sent sample of one person at the kiosk in Triplicane. Prior to setting up of kiosks, we had sent sample of one boy to a private lab for testing. This is because the family preferred testing at a private lab.”
The samples collected at the kiosks will be sent to The King Institute of Preventive Medicine and Research, Guindy for testing. The results will be obtained in two days, he says.
