From March 17, maintenance work will be undertaken at the desalination plant at Nemmeli for 15 days. Metro Water officials however say that this will not affect the water supply.
Area 173 which falls under Zone 13 covers MRC Nagar and parts of Mandaveli and R. A. Puram. A metro water official there says, “For the past few years we have been shutting off the plant for a few days every three months to manually remove floating materials such as shells, plants, sand, plastics and stones that get stuck in the water intake unit there. From now on, an automatic self-cleaning screen will be installed wherein the plant doesn’t need to be shut off anymore”.
He continues, “Water supply will not be interrupted. We are currently supplying 650 mld (million litres a day) everyday and that will continue. We will draw water from the Veeranam and Chembarambakkam lakes”.
