Churches under the Madras-Mylapore Catholic diocese have been given some guidelines to follow in the wake of the spread of the corona virus.
This follows similar guidelines puts out elsewhere in India’s churches like in Mumbai.
At Sunday Mass, at San Thome Cathedral the priest asked people not to hold hands when the prayer and sign of peace was said but to merely acknowledge it with folded hands.
Elsewhere, priests are requesting the faithful to receive Holy Communion on their tongues and not accept it in their hands and then consume it and for holy water fonts in churches to be kept dry instead of filling it daily because its use by church-goers can lead to infection if used by virus-affected people.
