Social workers are facing many challenges in dealing with people who are homeless or left stranded in the wake of the virus regulations and housed in shelters of the city’s civic body.
One such case is in Mylapore, the community centre located on Karaneeswarar Pagoda Street, the are behind CitiCentre Mall.
People who needed shelter and food and water were taken to this centre some days ago but social workers who chipped in realised they needed essentials for daily life though the kitchen got going and food was cooked and served.
This morning a SOS was put out for brooms, bedsheets and mats, disinfectants and soap, napkins and towels, buckets and mugs. Workers had to run around to source the materials and also for donations but by dusk, things had fallen into place, said Srividya Prasanna, one of the NGO heads assisting here.
