Every year, Bharatanatyam guru Sheela Unnikrishnan hosts a classical dance festival and the Navaratri mantapam at Sri Kapaleeswarar Temple in Mylapore is her favourite choice as the venue.
This year too, the festival is on but had to held on two weekends because the space could be spared only this way.
This weekend forms the latter half of the festival whicb is titled Satyam Shivam Sundaram.
This Saturday evening, the first recital was by Purva Dhanasree from Hyderabad; she performed Vilasini Natyam. Then followed a group Bharatanatyam recital by the disciples of Chennai-based guru Shobhana Balachandra.
There are two dance recitals on Sunday evening in the mantapam.
Sheela Unnikrishnan says most dancers prefer to perform at Sri Kapali Temple and that is why this is her first option as venue for this festival.
