Empty oil barrels, huge lengths of ropes, lorry loads of casuarina poles; this and all that is required for the annual Thaipoosam teppam festival at Sri Kapaleeswar Temple in Mylapore have been stocked in spaces alongside the tank.
On Saturday, workers started the groundwork on building the massive float in the water alongside the temple tank steps on the eastern side. Barrels were strung together to create the foundation for the float that is to be taken around the tank during the teppam.
The teppam festival is to be held from Feb. 8 to 10 this year.
On the three evenings, all gates of the tank will be kept open for people to watch the teppam.
