The local churches in Mylapore have planned the festivities for the Pongal celebration.
At Our Lady of Guidance church in R.A.Puram, the Pongal celebration will begin from 6 a.m.
In the morning at 7 a.m., special Holy Mass will take place. Later, sakkarai pongal will be cooked and distributed to the people. Says Parish priest of this church Rev Fr. Y.F. Bosco, “From 9 a.m., competitions like Uriyadi (pot breaking), musical chair, and tug of war will be conducted for children and adults.”
At Our Lady of Light Church in Luz, Pongal will be cooked in the open area at the church’s campus. After that Uriyadi (pot breaking) celebration will take place.

It is indeed a kind of broad-mindedness on the part of our Christian brothers and sisters to accommodate and celebrate our HINDU Festival “Pongal” in Churches and in other places. That compassion, that love, that forgiving nature, that gentleness, that patience, that humbleness shown by JESUS CHRIST are great to follow. Sure, they ever remain as the benchmarks of enviable good characters humans should possess. At the same time we too will reciprocate similarly.
