On Jan.14, long queues were seen at local ration shops in Mylapore to receive Pongal gifts announced by the state government. Ration card holders with ‘rice’ cards received free saris and dhotis on Tuesday evening.
Earlier this week, Pongal gift hampers that included Rs 1000 cash, and a kilo of rice, sugar, small packets (20 grams) of raisins, cardamom, cashew nuts and sugarcane were distributed.
