Food-based on the ragas of Carnatic music is the specialty at Thaligai restaurant’s music series ‘Amudhadhwani’. The restaurant’s Margazhi music concerts started on Dec. 21 and will be on till Dec 25.
On Dec 25, Nalina, the owner of the restaurant says the performing artiste has chosen Mohanam raga for the concert.”As it is a pentatonic raga, we will have five varieties of rice, and side dishes for dinner.”
The dinner will also include kunukku, karuvepelai podi idly, neer kozhukattai, adai aviyal, mor kozhambu, and dry nuts paalkhova. With the concert it is priced at Rs.350.
On this day, following a violin concert by Toronto A.Jayadevan, Udayalur Kalyanaraman and group will perform Namasankeerthanam at 6.30 p.m.
With the aim of blending traditional music with food, Nalina says the music series started three years ago. The restaurant also provides a platform for young artistes at its 4.30 p.m. concerts.
Says Nalina,” After the concert, the artistes will have food with the rasikas. So the latter will also get an opportunity to interact with them.”
