Senior philatelist and researcher on India’s light houses and maritime heritage, D. Hemchandra Rao will give a talk on ‘Indian Antiquity – Boats and Ships in Sculptures’ at Arkay Centre, Luz on Nov.2, 5.30 p.m. onwards.
The talk, hosted by Tamil Heritage Trust will have Rao traverse many centuries of Indian art in temples and elsewhere, which highlights maritime life in various parts of the country.
Rao will present instances of ‘maritime’ sculptures in Tamil Nadu, Goa and Gujarat, besides other regions, all collected and studied in the course of his travels across India these past years.
The event is open to all.
Rao, a retired civil engineer has a maritime museum at his home in Ilango Nagar Annexe, Valasarawakkam which displays a variety of objects featuring maritime vessels, models of boats and vintage accessories used in ships and boats.
