Civic workers have begun work on sinking two wells on the edge of the north end of C. P. Ramaswamy Road. Both wells are located alongside the Chennai Corporation Complex here.
These wells will be about 12 feet deep; precast cement rings are being lowered into the excavated depths and closed with cement lids that have small openings to allow rainwater to flow down and prevent waste from entering the well.
The two wells could well save the area from flooding when it rains; the water from around flows to this area because of its lower level and floods the pavement, affecting the shops in the complex. The water also brings with it muck and waste.
