The north-east monsoon which set in during the third week of October has been quite active so far. TANGEDCO officials however say that no major problems have been reported since the monsoon set in other than trees falling on transformers.
TANGEDCO’S assistant executive engineer for the Mylapore area says, “Last week we received complaints about tree falls at two places, Abhiramapuram 3rd Street and Prithvi Avenue. On both the streets, the trees had fallen on the transformer structure and there was a power outage. Once the Corporation officials cut off the branches, we were able to restore power in about three hours”.
When asked if most of the pre-monsoon maintenance work has been completed, he says, “In the Luz, Alwarpet, Abhiramapuram and Mylapore areas, we have raised more than 50 pillar boxes to a height of about 2.5 feet above the ground. The work on that started about three months ago. All open pillar boxes have been closed. We have also undertaken structure maintenance and have ensured that all the equipment are working effectively”.
