Tamil Nadu governor Banwarilal Purohit joined chief minister E. Palaniswami and his deputy, O. Paneerselvam and others to pay homage at the Gandhi statue on the Marina to mark the 15oth birth anniversary of Gandhi.
They offered flowers at the base of the state in a symbolic gesture.
Earlier, Gandhian and people who closely follow Gandhian principles sang bhajans and a few worked on the charka under shamiana in the vicinity.
Once the VIPs left, people were allowed to pay tribute. Many school children were seen here.
Sadly, this statue stands in complete darkness on other days of the year. The electrical fittings are gone, the wires stick out.
