Since the past few days, the Chennai Corporation’s contract workers are constructing stormwater drain (SWD) networks at R.K. Nagar Fourth Cross Street, and R.K. Nagar First Cross Street in R.A. Puram.
While the SWD network is being built for the first time at R.K. Nagar First Cross Street, at R.K. Nagar Fourth Cross Street, it is being constructed after demolishing the old one.
However, the residents say that instead of SWD network, the Corporation could have built rainwater harvesting (RWH) structures to prevent flooding at these two streets.
Anand Selvaraju, a resident of R.K. Nagar First Cross Street says, “Instead of wasting the water in the Buckingham canal by leading it through the stormwater drain, it would have been better if RWH structures were constructed here.”
