Kartik Fine Arts is opening a Carnatic music school this Vijayadasami (Oct 8). The school, Kartik Fine Arts Sangita Vidyalayam, will be headed by guru-vocalist Savita Narasimhan.
In a press release, the sabha says the school will initially begin with vocal classes and will include instrumental music based on requirement. A vocal course will be introduced for a minimum period of six years with a prescribed syllabus. Students who complete the course will become eligible for a proficiency certificate issued by the sabha on the basis of a special test. They will also be given opportunities to perform under the aegis of the sabha.
The course is open to beginners as well as to students who have undergone basic training in music. Scholarships will be given to students who perform well. Senior teachers and musicians will be invited to take special workshops.
Registration will be open from Sept. 20 to Oct. 4. For students aged 8 years and above.
