Recently, local units of Chennai Corporation have started constructing compost structures at public parks. This initiative is part of the Zero Waste Chennai campaign.
Now, similar structures are being constructed in the backyard of local Corporation’s ward offices and at a few Corporation schools where space is available.
At the Corporation’s ward 119 office at CIT Colony, civic workers have constructed a set of four compost structures. Small grill gates are fixed to each one to prevent plastic waste from getting inside the structure.
However, composting is yet to start at these places.
