The Chennai Chapter of Dignity Foundation, an NGO located at Anna Nagar is planning to open a Daycare Centre for senior citizens above the age of 60 years at Srinivasapuram, Mylapore. Now, Kavitha, a social worker and a resident of this area says, the volunteers of the organisation are surveying the neighbourhood to understand the feasibility of this pilot project here.
Felista Jose, Head of Chennai Chapter of Dignity Foundation says,”At present, we are looking for a space in this area for setting up the centre. It is most likely to start functioning in a few weeks.”
“At the Daycare Centre, we will conduct various activities for seniors in order to engage them in an activity they like and make them stress-free. Our main idea is to provide a space for the seniors to enjoy their time with like-minded people,” she says.
“A day at the centre will begin at 10 a.m. with a prayer, yoga, and a newspaper reading session. Thereafter, seniors will be trained in skills like bag making, dancing, singing and more; according to their preference. And once in two months, we will conduct events for them to showcase their skills. Health camps and check-ups will also be held regularly,” she says.
While the seniors are at the centre, Felista says they will be provided with lunch and evening snacks and tea.
All the services at this centre will be provided free of cost. People who wish to enrol may contact Dignity Foundation at 132, (Old No.52-A), AK Block, 7th Main Road, Anna Nagar, Chennai. Ph: 26210363.
