A vocational centre to produce low cost sanitary pads was inaugurated at Dr. MGR Janaki College, R. A. Puram on July 20. The centre will have a sanitary pad manufacturing machine and will be managed by eight underprivileged women.
The project was initiated by the Rotary Club of Madras North in association with the college. While a certain percentage of the sanitary pads will be distributed free of cost to the girls of government schools, the rest will be sold to NGOs and other Rotary Clubs at cost price.
Mylapore MLA R. Nataraj inaugurated the centre. Vanathi Srinivasan, Tamilnadu BJP general secretary, Kamal Sanghvi, Rotary International director, social entrepreneur Arunachalam Muruganantham, G. Chandramohan, Rotary District 3232 district governor and Mariazeena Johnson, Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology were also present at the event.
