Cryokinesis Wellness Studio, a cryotherapy center for joint pain relief, weight loss and facial has recently opened on Musuri Subramaniam Road, Mylapore. It is located above the new Palam Silks store.
Cryotherapy involves exposing the body to sub-zero temperatures in the range of -120 °C to – 180 °C for a short period of time. “During the process, the skin surface temperature drops to nearly 0°C. This stimulates the brain and triggers numerous organ regulatory functions. The brief cold exposure helps in overcoming conditions like arthritis and joint pains. It would help in inflammation reduction, muscle recovery, performance enhancement in sports, anti-aging, and fat loss,” says Fazil Badrudeen, one of the owners of the center.
“It also provides physiological benefits like improved sleep and reduction in stress levels. This treatment improves blood circulation, metabolism, the immune system, and the natural healing capacity of the body,” he says.
Two types of treatment – whole body cryotherapy and targeted localized cryotherapy are offered here.
The whole body cryotherapy requires one to stand in a Cryo chamber that the team has brought in from Poland. It provides the cooling effect through liquid nitrogen vapors. “Most of the body except the neck and head region will be exposed to the vapors for 3 minutes. While standing in the chamber, men can wear shorts and women can wear a tank top and shorts apart from wearing gloves and socks. A technician/therapist will always be there for assistance,” he says.
Localized cryotherapy involves exposing a particular body part like shoulder, back or hamstrings to relieve pain in that region.
Fazil says the therapy helps in releasing increased levels of hormones like seratonin, dopamine and endorphins in the brain, that help in improving physiological well being and aid in pain relief. “Also, after each session when our body comes back to its original temperature 600 – 800 calories are burnt,” he says.
The center also provides facials through the same cooling process.”An hour of Cryo glow session can help in reducing pore size, increase collagen production and improve blood flow,” he says.
People with medical conditions like cancer, diabetes, skin injuries, bladder issues, heart-related issues, and other major health issues may not be able to take this treatment. “We talk to our clients and check their health condition before treating them. We also have an advisory board of doctors for consultation,” he says.
