There are hundreds of concerts of Carnatic music that are hosted in Mylapore. And attending them round the year are some very passionate rasikas. Rasikas who know their music, spend quality time and then share feedback with the artistes. Straight feedback.
Venkateswaran was one such rasika. He passed away some years ago.
On Sunday, June 2 his friends are hosting a special concert in his memory at Raga Sudha Hall, Luz.
A vocal concert by Pantula Rama, 6 p.m. onwards.
Kannan, Venkateswaran’s friend says this man would be found in all the Chennai auditoriums listening to music, vocal or instrumental. Says Kannan, “He commuted all the way from interior Mambalam and attend concerts in any part of the city. He could not accept mediocrity and would express his views upfront to the artiste and the organiser. He had an abiding interest in the compositions of Thyagaraja and Pattanam Subramanya Iyer and could analyse them threadbare.”
