The Reading Space for Children programme at Nageswara Rao Park in Luz is warming up since its launch last Saturday. On an average 12 – 15 children are coming by to this space at the Chess Square at the rear of the park to pick up a book of their choice and read it there.
Children cannot take the books home. The books make light reading – ranging from Indian tales to short stories to tidbits on science, world leaders and skills for children. There are also books in Thamizh.
Two volunteers – Lalitha and Sruthi – manage this space.
The programme is on from 4 to 6 pm daily and will run till May 19, Sunday for now. Parents are welcome here to guide their children to form a reading habit.
The programme is a collaboration of Mylapore Times and Sundaram Finance.
