The 16th Vasanth Utsav dance festival organised by Saraswathi Educational Cultural and Charitable Trust, Sri Kapali Temple and ICCR will be held at Sri Kapali Temple, Mylapore will be held during the first week of May.
The chief guest for the inaugural function to be held on May 1 is Revathi Ramachandran, director, Kalakshetra. The guest of honour is K. Mohamed Ibrahim Khaleel, regional officer, ICCR, Chennai. Several artistes including bharatanatyam gurus Revathi Ramachandran and Srekala Bharath, vedic scholars R. Mani Dravid Sastrigal and P. Anantha Krishnan and Kashmir Shaivism scholar Virendra Qazi will be honoured. A Kathakali recital by Prabal Gupta and Kottakal C. M. Unni will follow at 6.30 p.m.
The ten day dance festival will be on from May 3 to 12. On May 12, the series will conclude with a bharatanatyam performance by guru Srekala Bharath and her disciples and a kathak recital by the students of guru Jigyasa Giri.
