Nungu (Ice apple) has arrived at Mylapore. On April 25, C.Rajendran, a hawker was selling them at Venkatesa Agraharam Street near Sri Saibaba Temple.
B. Shamili and her husband were buying the last set of fruits that this hawker had. “This is our favorite summer fruit. And this year we are buying more nungus to beat this scorching heat,” said Shamili.
Looking at the soft and juicy fruit, Tanuja, their daughter started eating the fruit on the road itself.”I was eagerly waiting since this summer started. The juice is yummy,” she said after finishing one.
A set of four fruits (big size) are priced at Rs.20.
Rajendran has brought the fruits from Seekinankuppam near Koovathur. “The fruits will be available till the end of May,” he said. His shop is put up opposite to Marvel Vasudev apartments in Venkatesan Agraharam Road. It will be open on all days from 7 a.m. onwards.
