Six eminent personalities were felicitated at the valedictory event of Samskrita Academy’s 90th anniversary held at Sanskrit College, Mylapore recently. Sanskrit scholars and nonagenarians A. Srinivasachar and S. Ranganatha Sarma, Dr. V. Shanta of Cancer Institute, dance gurus V. P. Dhananjayan and Shanta Dhanajayan, ghatam maestro Vikku T. H. Vinayaka Ram and Dr. T. Satyamurthy (archaeology) were honoured for their contributions.
The chief guest was the governor of Tamilnadu, Banwarilal Purohit and the guest of honour was Dr. Anita Sumanth, judge, Madras High Court. The governor talked about the need to learn languages. This, he said, will help in knowledge acquisition and also improve communication with people from other regions and nations.
The Mylapore based academy, which was founded in 1927, conducts endowment lectures and seminars and also published books on religion, philosophy and grammar.
