If you are a diehard Carnatic music rasika or love plays, then get in early to watch ‘ Trinity’ at Bhavans on East Mada Street, Mylapore this Friday evening.
It is directed by P C Ramakrishna and plays out a few incidents in the lives of the three great music composers – Thyagaraja, Dikhitar and Shyama Sastri, indicative of their lives and music.
Vocalist Vijay Siva is Muthuswamy Dikshitar, vocalist Gayathri Venkataraghavan is Lalitha (wife of Shyama Sastri) and vocalist Dr. Sunder Subramaniam plays Thyagaraja.
As the note from the producers state – ‘Trinity’ is a seamless weave of 3 short stories by Seetha Ravi (published in Kalki magazine) and translated by Prabha Sridevan (in The Hindu) on the “Tiruvarur Three”, Muthuswami Dikshitar, Shyama Sastri and Thyagaraja, the fountainheads of Carnatic music, who lived around Thanjavur at the same time in the 18th century.
The play also stars Palghat Ramprasad, Vikram K. Raghavan, Bharath Narayan, Abhinav Shankar and Mathangi Kailasanath as lead singers.
On Friday, 8th March 2019 – with live Carnatic music.
The play starts at 7 p.m. but gates will close by 6.45 p.m. Admission is free on first-come first serve basis.
