The popular Ganapathy’s Butter and Ghee based in Mylapore is now in its 77th year of establishment. The shop which started in 1942 by S. Ganapathy Pillai in the name “Ganapathy & Co.”, now run by his grandson S. Saravanan, has donned a new look too.
“This shop was started by my grand father and till date only sells butter and ghee, says Saravanan, owner. The butter is sourced from Uthukuli via railway and the ghee is handchurned at our manufacturing unit and freshly sold”, says Saravanan. “We do not refrigerate it”.
The demise of the founder resulted in his eldest son Sankaran taking on the reins of the establishment. Today, his two sons Saravanan and Balaji have ensured that the past and present generations of customers do not feel a compromise on the quality.
Over the years, the store has moved on from selling dairy products to podi, rice mixes, appalam and vadams. “Today, we cater to every demand that our customers make, be it spicy pickles, tangy thokku, ready food mixes, snacks & appalams and even healthy chekku oils. One can also buy in large quantities”, he added.
