Loomworld – Dept of Handloom’s Pongal Expo opened this week at Sankara Hall on TTK Road, Alwarpet. It will be on till January 12.All handloom weaver’s societies across Tamil Nadu are participating in this sale – both silk and cotton sarees are available, with a 30% discount
What not to miss at the expo : Kanjivaram sarees, Arani zaris (Zero zari / no zari, but pure silk), Thirubhuvanam pattu – with one side border: Mokshakulam pattu ( multi color checked saris): Coimbatore soft silk sarees, 1000 butta cotton sarees: Vilanthai cottons (the saris resemble the classic Venkatagiri weaves): Arupukottai sarees; Sungudi sarees and Chedibutta sarees (art silks).
You can also shop for handloom lungis, cotton dhotis and home furnishings.
