The annual feast of Saint Lazarus at our Lady of Guidance Church at Lazarus Church Road, R. A. Puram kicked off with the flag hoisting ceremony and a four car procession on Jan 17.
Parish priest Rev. Fr. P. S. Kanickairaj says, “This is an annual festival held after Pongal, on the last Sunday of January, to honour Saint Lazarus. The highlight of this festival is the grand car procession, this year it will be held on Jan 26 evening. Nine beautifully decorated cars will be taken out through the streets of this neighbourhood. The procession will start at dusk and will go on late into the night. Parishioners are welcome to bring in their offerings for the car festival on Saturday. We have people coming in from places as far as Pondicherry and Karaikal”.
A special Mass will be held in the evening at 6 p.m. everyday, he says. “On Jan 27 morning, after the Mass, one big car will be taken out in procession. The flag will be lowered that evening”.
