Preparations on for India Quilt Fest in Alwarpet in January

The INDIA QUILT FESTIVAL  is to be held January 25 to 27 at Sri Sankara Hall, TTK Road, Awarpet and is a one of its kind. Chennai is hosting this craft for the first time and the best artistes from India and abroad are going to be participating here.

Vintage quilts will vie for space with modern quilts, while traditional designs rub elbows with ultra-modern elements. 

The festival highlights :

  •  Quilt Show – display of over 150 quilts competing for 22 awards.
  • Nine workshops and two lectures by expert quilters at WelcomHotel on Cathedral Road over three days.
  • Artisans Showcase – artisans from India and overseas demonstrating their special techniques
  • Curated exhibit of quilts from India and overseas “Quilts Across Time and Nations”

A record creating attempt with a quilt titled “Rajyabhishek of Chatrapathi Shivaji”.  Participants can choose any one ‘warrior’ from this quilt and learn the process of making it. Register for workshops right now as seats are limited.

Chennai’s fabric-art lovers group, ” TSI Inchworms” are working non-stop to complete their quilts for the competition, registration closes on 31 Dec 2018.
