Free the Tree Campaign has been on for two weekends on Luz Church Road, Mylapore. It is led by the NGO, Nizhal and depends on local volunteers to sustain it. The third leg of this campaign is planned on November 11, Sunday and Mylaporeans are invited to take part in it.
This campaign intends to remove advert boards and nails hammered into the trunks and branches of trees in public spaces because such acts lead to the death of trees.
A Nizhal volunteer said, “We completed a stretch on this road but we have more left to do.”
The volunteers remove nails, commercial boards and banners from trees on both sides of the road. They also remove tyres and tree guards that stunt the growth of trees.
Date – November 11 (Sunday) Time – 9 a.m to 10 a.m. Meeting Point – Mylapore Luz Circle ( near traffic signal). Contact – 9952038216
