Here are some of the events scheduled at temples in the neighbourhood for the month of Karthigai…
At Sri Kapali Temple, Mylapore, 108 conches will be used for an abhishekam for Sri Kapaleeswarar, every Monday evening (for karthigai somavaram). On the fifth Monday, 1008 conches will be used for the sangabhishekam. Sokka pannai will be held on Nov 22 followed by pancha murthi veedi purappadu. The temple tank will be decorated with more than 5000 lamps from Nov 22 to 24 in the evening.
At Sri Karaneeswarar Temple, Mylapore, 108 conches will be used for the sangabhishekam to be held for the deity every Monday evening. The deity will adorn a special alangaram. A maha deepa aradhanai will follow.
On Nov 22, an abhishekam will be held in the morning for Karthigai Deepam. A gopuram deepa aradhanai will be held in the evening. Sokka pannai and veedi purappadu will follow. On Nov 23, to mark Annamalaiyar Deepam, the deity will adorn a special alangaram. A special abhishekam will be held followed by deepa aradhanai.
At Sri Velleeswarar Temple, Mylapore, Karthigai Deepam will be celebrated on Nov 22. In the evening, a veedi purappadu will be held after sokkai pannai. More than 500 lamps will be used to decorate the temple from Nov 22 to 24 in the evening.
At Sri Vedanta Desikar Temple, Mylapore, karthigai deepam will be celebrated on Nov 23. In the evening, Perumal, Thirumangaialvar and Sri Desikan will be taken on a veedi purappadu. Later all the deities (moolavar) will adorn the Thaila Kappu wherein specially prepared herbal oils are applied on the deity for a specific period of time.
