On four evenings, starting from November 14, Tamil Nadu Iyal Isai Nataka Manram, a state government body is hosting four Thamizh plays. Each play reflects the trend of theatre of that time, from the era of Purana story-based scripts to current social themes.
The curtains went up on this festival which has been held elsewhere in the state with a launch at Narada Gana Sabha, Alwarpet on Wednesday evening.
Head of the Manram and senior music director Deva inaugurated the fest and the historical play ‘ Ambikapathy – Amaravathy’ was staged, directed by Mallikaraj who recently completed the 100th show of ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ on stage.
On Thursday, a well-known troupe from Salem led by Soundappan, will stage Pammal Sambandam’s musical ‘Valli Thirumanam’, on Friday the play is Dummies Drama’s ‘Kanavu Meipada’ and finally, on Saturday, kattai-koothu guru P. Rajagopal and his troupe will stage ‘Abhimanyu’.
All plays start at 6.30 p.m. and are open to all.
