Corporation officials have been working overtime these past few months to ensure that the roads are laid and the muck is removed from storm water drains before the monsoon.
The area engineer at Ward 123 says, “So far, we have finished desilting the storm water drains at 24 roads including Seethammal Main Road, R. A. Puram First and Second Main Road, Thiruvalluvar Salai, De Silva Road and Desika Road. Work at Bheemanna Mudali Garden Street, Abhiramapuram will commence soon and will be done in a week”.
He continues, “When trees or branches fall on roads and disrupt traffic, residents can call the area engineer of their respective ward. We have cutting machines which we will bring that over to remove the fallen branch”.
He also says that each ward has atleast two diesel motors which will be used to pump out the water in flooded areas.
He continues, “We have one area engineer and a team on duty at night. In the event of emergencies, between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m., residents from the Mylapore area, which includes San Thome, Abhiramapuram, Mandaveli, Alwarpet and R. A. Puram can call 9445190209. In most cases, the work will be attended to immediately. If the work is major and needs more time, the area engineer on duty the following morning will be informed”.
