Chennai Corporation workers began cleaning up the civic mess that greets people at the entrance of Nadu Street, the street that runs east from East Mada Street.
Machinery was employed to remove the debris and solid waste that was dumped around the waste bin that stands in this corner.
For weeks now, residents of this street which still has many old houses have been complaining that not only is the bin overflowing but the space here is treated like a dump yard and a urinal.
This has polluted the area and puts off residents and others who have to walk on Nadu Street.
Residents say that waste generated at two wedding halls on either side of the street is also dumped here after the dining gets over in the halls.
