Oct 19. The Nest Preschool at C. I. T. Colony is buzzing with activity. Parents have assembled there with their wards for the Aksharabhyasam ceremony. They are nervous, their toddlers are going to take their first steps in the world of learning.
Soon the ceremony begins. The priest chants hymns while the children, seated on their parents’ laps, write their first words on rice spread out on a plaintain leaf.
