Here are some of the events to be held at temples in the neighbourhood over the next few weeks….
Sri Kapaleeswarar Temple, Mylapore
Aadi pooram falls on Aug 13 this year. An abhishekam will be held for goddess Karpagambal (utsavar) at the temple tank in the morning. The deity(utsavar) will then be brought to the temple. Later an abhishekam will be held for the main deity (moolavar). In the evening, the goddess will be taken on a veedi purappadu on the Gandharvi vahanam.
The Thirumurai utsavam is on at the temple till Aug 18. Songs from the thirumurai and thevaram will be sung in the evening everyday.
Sri Karaneeswarar Temple, Mylapore
The Panneeru Thirumurai utsavam is on at Sri Karaneeswarar Temple, Mylapore till Aug 18. Lectures and classes will be held in the evening everyday.
On Aug 13, Aadi pooram, there will be a valaikappu festival for goddess Porkodi Amman and a special abhishekam in the morning. In the evening, the deity (moolavar) will adorn a chandana kappu. The utsava murthy will be taken on a veedi purappadu on the Gandharvi vahanam.
On Aug 17, a special abhishekam will be held for the goddess in the morning and an unjal vizha in the evening at 7 p.m.
On Aug 21, a special abhishekam for the deity in the morning will mark the Aavani Moolam Perivizha. In the evening, Lord Karaneeswarar will be taken on a veedi purappadu on the rishaba vahanam.
Sri Velleeswarar Temple, Mylapore
On Aug 13, for Aadi pooram, bangles will be used to decorate the deity. In the evening, the goddess will be taken on a veedi purappadu on the Gandharvi vahanam.
Sri Adi Kesava Perumal Temple, Mylapore
Thiruvadipuram utsavam is on till Aug 13. Daily events include a thirumanjanam for Goddess Andal in the morning and a veedi purappadu in the evening followed by maalai mathal. Ther will be held on the last day in the morning. Jyeshthabhishekam will be held Aug 25 and Thirupavadai utsavam on Aug 26.
Sri Vedanta Desikar Temple, Mylapore
The ten day Thiruvadipuram utsavam is on till Aug 13. On the last day, a veedi purappadu will be held for the deity in the evening, thirukalyanam will follow. The Oorkoola utsavam will be celebrated on Aug 14 with a veedi purappadu in the evening. On Aug 15, an 81 kalasa jyesthabhishekam will be held.
