As a part of its diamond jubilee celebrations and to commemorate the contribution of film director K. Balachander, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan is conducting a drama festival from July 9 to 12 at its premises at East Mada Street, Mylapore.
The event will be inaugurated by N. Ravi, chairman, Bhavan’s Chennai Kendra on July 9 in the evening. He will present the Iyakkunar Sigaram K. Balachander award, instituted by Kavithalaya Krishnan for excellence in theatre, to theatre artiste Mouli and the Bhavan’s lifetime achievement award for theatre art to S. V. Sankaran. Dr. Nalli Kuppuswami, vice chairman, Bhavan’s Chennai Kendra felicitates. Kalki’s drama ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ will follow.
Other dramas which will be staged include ‘Maaveeran Maudhanayagam’ on July 10, ‘Thirunavaukkarasar’ on July 11 and ‘Maharishi Ramanar’ on July 12. All are welcome.
