The team that heads the Chennai kendra of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan got up a small formal function to felicitate Carnatic music maestro T. V. Gopalakrishnan on his 86th birthday on June11 evening at the kendra auditorium in Mylapore.
The multi-facted vidwan was performing this evening as part of the kendra’s diamond jubilee Carnatic Legends music festival.
TVG, as the guru is fondly known said that he celebrates his birthday in a low-key manner; on his star birthday, he often visits the Mookambika Temple, he said.
The main guests – N. Murali of The Hindu group and Nalli Kuppuswamy Chetti, businessperson and arts promoter – spoke on TVG. They had TVG’s wife to be on the stage and garlanded her.
Later, TVG performed with S. Varadarajan and Patri Satish Kumar – a concert in which he featured songs he had learnt and mastered down the ages.
