There are mixed reactions to the ongoing project to lay lawns in key squares inside Nageswara Rao Park in Luz.
Regular users of the park acknowledge that while lawns may give the park a smart look maintaining them and saving them from vandalism are tall tasks and hence the investment on such lawns will be a waste.
Others say that educated people who use the park lack self-discipline. Many use the lawn spaces to play badminton and over recent years, many courts have been created for sport play. “Parks are not playgrounds and people must understand this,” said a senior who goes for walks here.
A few others wonder why Chennai Corporation goes ahead with such project when there are other issues in this park and around it that need attention. They point to the rusted, broken play accessories in the children’s area of the park.
