The members of Abhiramapuram Neighbourhood Resident’s Association (AbhiNera) recently led a week long campaign in their area urging shoppers not to accept plastic bags from vendors.
As a follow-up, and to keep the momentum going, ‘Bag banks’ have been placed at the entrances of vegetable and grocery shops in the area.
Used bags in good condition were collected from residents and placed in cartons. Anyone can take a bag or drop off one into the carton. This, they hope, will encourage shoppers to bring their own bags.
