Vana Bhojanam, an event held on a Sunday during the Tamil month of Thai, falls on Feb 11 this year. Here is a look at the festivities planned at two local temples.
At Sri Kapali Temple, Mylapore, Sri Singaravelar and his consorts Valli and Devayani will be carried to the mandapam just before the old post office at R. K. Mutt Road in the morning. An abhishekam will be performed there. The deities will be brought back to the temple in the evening.
At Sri Velleeswarar Temple, Mylapore, the deity Sri Muthukumaraswamy and his consorts will be taken on a procession to Theerthampattarai thottam on Kamarajar Salai in the morning. The deity will adorn a special alangaram and an abhishekam will be held there too. At 4 p.m., the deity will be carried via R. K. Mutt Road and will be taken via Norton Road and Adams Street before reaching the temple at South Mada Street. The procession will stop at the homes of the devotees on the way.
